Full Service Landscaping Contractor
Crane Hill Contracting LLC is a Mansfield Storrs CT landscaping company. We have been an Eastern CT landscaping and excavation contractor for over 18 years. We work with residential clients in the Tolland County area. Landscape construction is usually thought of in two separate categories; hardscaping and soft scaping. Our contractors will begin by clearing the land and grading the property for proper drainage, Hardscapes are permanent structures built with natural stone, bricks, paving block or concrete. Soft scapes consist of plants chosen to soften the landscape and improve the appeal of the property.
Adding a patio, a fireplace, retaining wall, walkway or other structure adds value to a property. Hardscaping can include a functional retaining wall, an attractive walkway, or a custom patio. The addition of firepits, fountains, stone walls, benches, barbecue enclosures and fireplaces will enhance the value and functionality of the yard. These permanent structures can be built from natural materials such as field stone or from man-made materials such as paving blocks or concrete. The addition of hardscaping adds beauty and functionality year round to your home or commercial project. Owner Ben Lacy enjoys working with the client to create something special and unique for their individual project.
The second part of landscape construction is softscaping or planting. The use of plants is beneficial in so many ways. Not only adding beauty and curb appeal, but perhaps also acting as a wind block, adding shade, color, fragrance and texture. Woody plantings of trees and shrubs add the structure during seasons when the herbaceous plants go dormant. Plantings of herbaceous perennials and annuals bring the color and fragrance to the spring and summer gardens.
Often times the planting site must be amended before installing the plants. Crane Hill Contracting is able to work with the site, either adding top soil and fertilizer or adding drainage for water logged soil or hardpan if needed. We are happy to work with the client to ensure a landscape construction design they will enjoy and take full advantage of.
The primary service area for Crane Hill Contracting LLC Landscaping includes eastern Connecticut towns of Bolton, Columbia, Coventry, Glastonbury, Hebron, Mansfield Storrs, Tolland and surrounding towns.

Tips for taking care of your new plantings
Regular watering is incredibly important during the establishment of newly planted trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants. Keep the root system moist, but not too wet, for the first six to eight weeks after planting. Allow the soil to be your guide as to how often you should water, but keep these general time frames in mind for new plantings.
Trees and Shrubs/ 2x per week or more if there is no rain
Herbaceous plants/ daily watering to establish growth
For freshly planted herbaceous plants use a general- purpose fertilizer during their first year of growth
For shrubs and trees use a fertilizer with a nitrogen source of 12-16 percent. Broadcast fertilizer about 6″ from the trunk to 12″ past the canopy. Applying up to 3 times during the growing season of their first year. Follow directions closely on product and for variety.
